Opt out of junk mail

Junk mail is not only a nuisance for most people, it is also terrible for the environment, but you can opt out of most of it.

Consider the following:

each year, America uses approximately 100 million trees and 28 billion gallons of water to produce junk mail

5.6 million tons of catalogs and other junk mail end up in American landfills annually

only 22 percent of junkmail is recycled, and about 44 percent gets thrown away, unopened

the environmental costs of junk mail also include pollution and carbon emissions from energy used to manufacture and deliver it, plus heavy metal pollution from the ink used

How many times have you come home to an irritating pile of junk mail in your home or mailbox? The average American will spend a total of 8 months of their life opening junk mail. It creates messy clutter in your home, and costs you time to sort it all out. You probably either end up throwing most of it in the trash, but preferably you recycle it. Not only is it harmful to the environment and irritating, it also costs taxpayers millions of dollars each year.

So what can you do to stop junk mail once and for all? Unfortunately, you can’t stop 100% of junk mail, but you can stop up to 90% of it with these simple steps:

Please note that these instruction are for American residents and businesses only, however there are similar ways to stop junk mail in other countries.
